AS the latest bunch of desperate lycra-clad celebrities try in vain to save their final bit of dignity as they slip and slide across the rink live on Dancing on Ice, the real athletes are preparing themselves for next month’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

But for those of us who are not an ailing soap star or a competing Olympiad, we can still get our frozen kicks in the capital this winter at the Canary Wharf Ice Rink.

Open until Sunday, February 21, budding Torvills and Deans have plenty of time to brush up on their lifts, twirls and spins, while happy couples can make the most of the romantic setting on Valentine’s Day.

Managing director Brian Jokat, says: “I am really pleased with the way the ice rink is progressing so far this season. The weather is now really good, the ice is in great shape and the skaters are enjoying themselves.”

The Canary Wharf Ice Rink is open until Sunday, February 21, Monday to Friday, 9.45am to 11pm and Sunday, 9.45am to 7.30pm. For more information visit www.canarywharficerink.com
