A WEST Indian version of Gilbert and Sullivan favourite, The Pirates of Penzance, will take to the stage next month.
Southgate Opera’s latest production at the Wyllyotts Theatre, Potters Bar, will also draw on the 1948 Hollywood movie, The Pirate, starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly.
Lead characters Frederic and Mabel are played by Christopher Jacklin, a post-graduate student at the Royal College of Music, and Paloma Bruce.
Director Clive Bebee said: “The show will have a whole new look, we’re maintaining the glorious traditions of the Savoy Operas, but I can assure you there will be lots of swashing of the buckle.”
The show runs from Wednesday February 17 to Saturday February 20 at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee 2.30pm. Prices from £8. To book call Wyllyott’s Box Office: 01707 645005.
