THE oldest library in the borough will celebrate its centenary tomorrow.
Enfield Highway Library, in Hertford Road, was founded in the Edwardian era and has survived several social changes, including 18 prime ministers and five monarchs.
Local studies officer John Clark will share his thoughts and memories of the library at 2.30pm, and at 3pm there will be a quiz.
At 3.20pm a special birthday cake will be cut.
Visitors also have the chance to win prizes by finding 100 "Wallys", which will be hidden in the library until December 5.
The library foundation stone was laid in 1909 and the building officially opened in April 1910. It was funded with a £4,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation, set up by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
The children's library was added in 1928 and the borough's first travelling library was created there in 1947.
