Tourism internships on offer at Enfield Council

YOUNGSTERS interested in careers in tourism and international relations have been urged to apply for new work placement schemes at Enfield Council.

The new Town Twinning & Tourism team is seeking students with Greek and Turkish language skills to work on projects with the borough's twinning partners, Halandri, a suburb of Athens, and Sariyer, a suburb of Istanbul.

The placements would be based at the Enfield Civic Centre, in Silver Street.

Town twinning and tourism officer, Eleanor Hunt, said: “Work experience placements offer Enfield’s young people a unique experience of working in a dynamic organisation.

"Students can use their foreign languages and international outlook to create new tourism strategies and further develop Enfield’s links abroad.

“They can also bring new ideas and invaluable links to our youth community, contributing to fascinating international projects for young people.”

Winchmore School, in Laburnum Grove, and Southgate College, in High Street, have both signed up pupils to the schemes.

In May, Winchmore School pupil Natalia Kucia, 15, accepted one of the placements.

Natalia, originally from Poland, contributed to the creation of new town twinning webpages on the council website.

A council spokeswoman said: "Natalia did a wonderful job.

"She enjoyed the experience and helped develop tourism offers for young people visiting Enfield."

Wendy Winter, economic wellbeing co-ordinator at Winchmore School, said, “We are delighted to be able to send some of our students to Enfield Council so that they can gain some insight into international relations and also use their languages.

"This is an extremely valuable experience for them."

Ivan Berner, European coordinator at Southgate College, added: “Students are looking forward to taking part in this work and I wholeheartedly support them.

"They can make a really useful contribution to the council."
