A TOPPING out ceremony was held on Monday to mark the laying of the final brick in Enfield Town Library’s new roof.
The Edwardian library, in Church Street, won’t be open until spring next year as other work is still to be carried out under the council’s £5m refurbishment and extension programme.
The main library entrance will be relocated to face the green, while there will be new landscaping and planting on the green, a modern two-storey extension at the rear which will house a new children’s library, a café, more computers and lead to an outside area.
Modern adaptations include WiFi and music listening posts, and self-servicing electronic issuing for books.
A ground-source heating system will also be installed, comprising a system of boreholes drilled 100 metres deep into the ground, which are heated from natural energy sources.
