GREEN Party politicians are urging Enfield Council to turn out their lights for Earth Hour to prove their green credentials.
Earth Hour, due to take place on Saturday at 8.30pm, is an initiative where people and organisations across the world turn off their lights for one hour.
Douglas Coker, Enfield Green Party chairman, said: "Enfield Council say that their strategic objective is to become an ‘exemplary, sustainable borough by addressing the causes and adapting to the impacts of climate change’.
"Therefore they should switch off and become part of the world’s biggest ever action against climate change.
An estimated 1,500 cities and towns from more than 80 countries will be getting involved in Earth Hour.
Mr Coker added: "This action will help persuade global leaders negotiating in December at the UN Climate summit in Copenhagen that they need to take strong steps to tackle climate change.”
