A CRIMINAL gang smashed a van into a building on Monday evening in a raid on Winchmore Hill audio retailer.
Three men targeted the Bang and Olfsen warehouse, in Queens Avenue, at 9.15pm, in a bid to steal expensive hi-fi equipment.
The ram-raid trio caused massive damage to the stock contents of the storage facility.
An eye-witness alerted the police to the smash and grab job.
The alarm box which was to guard the high-end firm’s property was ripped out and later found half a mile away.
Police have recovered a pick-axe from the scene which they believe was used to diasble it.
The gang could snatch only a relatively small amount of equipment before fleeing the scene in the van towards Farm Road Shop boss, Andrew Widger said: “It’s a hell of a mess. And heart breaking too, because we have just introduced a DVD storage service for customers. Some collections are going to be badly damaged.”
A police spokeswoman was optimistic that officers will bring the thieves to justice.
She said: “Enquiries are in hand by officers to trace the suspect's vehicle.”
