60 years of happiness

HUMOUR and determination are the secret of a happy marriage - or at least that is the opinion of a couple who are celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss.

Last Thursday, John Lleuuellyn, 84, and wife Gladys, 82, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The couple met in 1942 at a dance held by a local factory. But they only began to see each other four years later.

They first met up in the company of other friends, and only started dating when John was on leave from the services.

On their first date, John asked Gladys to the Edmonton Empire cinema. However, they were turned away and instead decided to go dancing. The two then continued to go out, eventually falling in love.

The couple, who describe themselves as "adventurous and well- travelled", have five children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

To celebrate their anniversary, John and Gladys went with their immediate children, their partners and three of their grandchildren, on a week-long holiday to Greek island Zante, which the couple said was "fantastic".

The secret to a happy marriage, Gladys explained "is that all marriages have their ups and downs, but all you need is a bit of humour and to just get on with it. You move along".
