Pair guilty of selling fake designer shoes

TWO men have been found guilty of selling fake Burberry shoes - which they bought from a supplier for just 67p each.

The pair appeared at Wood Green Crown Court after a swoop by Enfield Council's Trading Standards on a warehouse in Edmonton.

Amram Braha, of Gants Hill, Essex, and Bulent Imre, who was living in the Edmonton Warehouse, were found guilty of attempting to sell over 100,000 pairs of the shoes, at £5 a pair.

A third man, Alptekin Telci, of Northumberland Grove, Tottenham, had pleaded guilty to the same charge.

The court heard how Trading Standards staged the raid on the warehouse on the Langhedge Lane industrial estate, following a test purchase operation by an official from Burberry.

The men bought the Chinese-made shoes from a supplier in the United States.

Bob Griffiths, head of Enfield Council's Trading Standards, said: "This court case arose following a detailed and professional investigation.

"The judge has indicated that a custodial sentence is being considered for these offences, which underlines the seriousness of the case and clearly supports the action taken by the council's Trading Standards and the legal team."

Cllr Terry Neville said: "These men were no lovable Del Boy type rogues but conmen who were seeking to line their own pockets by selling cheap and nasty goods at an outrageous mark-up at the expense of their customers."

They will be sentenced on March 13.
