MP delighted at new ATM move

EDMONTON MP Andy Love has welcomed the news that nine new free-to-use cash machines are to be installed across his constituency.

The new ATMs will be part of an initiative launched by the Government to ensure that people living in lower income areas, such as Edmonton, which previously had no free machines can get easier access to their money without being charged.

As part of the Government initiative, which has also received help from Link cash machines, banks and local authorities, clear signs will also have to be placed on every cash machine in the borough to show whether or not they charge for withdrawals to ensure that all users are made aware if they have to pay for using the ATM.

The aim of the scheme is to help people on lower incomes to start up bank accounts and ensure that they can access their money as easily and cheaply as possible.

The Labour MP said: "I am delighted that we have managed to secure nine new free-to-use cash machines in Edmonton - well above the national average.

"I know it will be a real benefit to local residents, who have previously either had to pay to withdraw their cash or travel further afield.

"Enfield was the first place in the world to have a cash machine (Barclays, in Enfield Town). Now, 40 years on, it is only fitting that local residents still have good access to this resource in their community."
