AN ELDERLY woman has been killed in a road accident after she fell beneath the wheels of an articulated lorry in Bullsmoor Lane.
The incident happened shortly after 2.30pm on Thursday at a set of traffic lights close to the junction of Hertford Road and Great Cambridge Road, in the north of the borough.
Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident brought surrounding roads to a standstill, and traffic was diverted towards Waltham Cross.
A police statement read: "We are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision.
"Police were called at 2.38pm on Thursday to reports of a HGV vehicle in collision with a pedestrian on Bullsmoor Lane at the junction with Hertford Road.
"Police, ambulance and fire brigade attended and found an elderly female pedestrian trapped. The woman died as a result of her injury.
"The Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances of the collision."
