A MURDER investigation has been launched to catch the killers of an elderly man who was stabbed on a tube train.
The victim, Banesinh Gohil, was with his wife and two friends after attending a prayer meeting at a temple in Wealdstone on December 1.
All four then boarded a southbound Bakerloo train at Harrow and Wealdstone tube station at approximately 7.40pm.
But somewhere between Stonebridge Park and Harlesden tube stations Mr and Mrs Gohil, who lived in Edmonton, and their two friends were subjected to a horrifying robbery at knifepoint by two men.
During the attack they stabbed the elderly man, 73, in the leg and his wife was stabbed in the arm. They then escaped with stolen cash and handbags.
Mr Gohil was taken to Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow but he died almost three weeks later on December 19. A post mortem held the following day was unable to establish the exact cause of death.
An appeal for witnesses has been made by the Metropolitan Police, which was handed the case by the British Transport Police when the victim died. Officers from the Serious Crime Group based at Hendon hope to find anyone who may have witnessed the attack.
"We are treating this as a murder investigation," said a spokesman on Friday last week.
