Plans to turn a shop into a ‘dining venue’ that neighbours feared would become a nightclub have been given the go-ahead.

Clarke and Parker Fishmongers in Muswell Hill will become an ‘intimate dining venue serving modern British cuisine’ after getting the nod from Haringey Council’s licensing committee.

The restaurant, in Broadway, will be allowed to open until 12.30am on Friday and Saturday, 11.30pm from Monday to Thursday and 10.30pm on Sunday.

Neighbours feared the premises would become a nightclub, which could lead to more noise and anti-social behaviour.

Council documents showed the applicants originally planned to turn the fishmongers into a ‘wine bar’.

But at a licensing committee meeting on July 12, they said the venue would become a “lounge or dining space” and claimed there were no plans to host regular live music.

The licence will allow alcohol to be consumed on and off the premises, but the owners will only be able to use the venue’s courtyard for storage and will only be able to access it during daytime operating hours.

A council statement said: “The committee heard the representations by the local residents in opposition to the application but felt that the applicants had demonstrated their commitment to engaging with local residents and attempting to resolve any issues.

“The committee was only able to have regard to relevant representation and found the applicants’ proposals with respect to the premises, in particular how they planned to address the licensing objectives, to be credible.”
