A 63-year-old was left with life changing injuries after a “strong chemical” was sprayed in his eyes.

Two men approached the man while he waited by his car in Bell Lane, Enfield, at 2am on Saturday.

Spraying the 63-year-old in the eyes with a strong chemical substance, the two men stole his car key and drove off with his silver Toyota.

Police and medics were called to the scene and took the man to an east London hospital with “life-changing” damage to his eyes.

His next of kin have been informed.

The men were seen approaching the 63-year-old before the attack from Albany Park.

The car they stole is a silver Toyota Avensis, registration BG58LZK.

Lead investigating officer DC James Rush said: "This was a vicious robbery all the more appalling because of the brazen use of a strong chemical to rob the victim.

“I would ask for anyone who was in Albany Park or the surrounding area at the time of this incident to contact police.

"Even if you didn't witness the incident itself but were in the area, you may have seen something that could prove vital to this investigation."

Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident should contact Police on 101 and quote reference 996/07JUL18.
