Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) will introduce a new timetable for the third time in two months following uproar over severe delays and cancellations.

The timetable will be introduced on Thameslink and Great Northern services to tackle the disruption caused by the introduction of the first new timetable on May 20.

An interim timetable was introduced on June 4 which saw around six per cent of daily services removed.

The Thameslink line serves commuters in St Albans, Harpenden, Radlett, Borehamwood and parts of Barnet and the Great Northern line serves commuters in Enfield and part of Haringey.

In response to this announcement the London Assembly chairman of the transport committee, Caroline Pidgeon said that passengers will be “exasperated” to hear another timetable will be implemented.

Ms Pidgeon added: “The public have lost confidence in these new timetables because of the chaos they have caused. Passengers need certainty and reliability if they are to regain confidence in the train services they rely on.

“While we accept incremental improvements to the timetable will have to happen to re-establish a decent service it will be months until passengers receive the level of service they were promised in May.”

Earlier this month the GTR chief executive, Charles Horton, resigned from the company following outrage over the new timetable launched in May.

Commenting on the announcement of another new timetable, a GTR spokesman said the company was “very, very sorry” for the continued disruption.

They added: “We are re-planning how we use trains and train crew on Thameslink and Great Northern to deliver a new fixed, interim timetable in July that will prioritise peak trains and reduce service gaps, progressively delivering improvement.”
