Jeremy Corbyn: Resignation is 'sad' but 'right thing to do'
Ken Livingstone has announced he is to resign from the Labour Party.
The reason for his resignation is said to be related to issues surrounding his suspension for alleged anti-Semitism which he said was becoming a “distraction” for the party and its political ambitions.
The ex-London mayor was suspended in 2016 for comments he made about Hitler and Zionism.
Last week, shadow attorney general, Shami Chakrabarti, who wrote a report on dealing with anti-Semitism in the party, called for Mr Livingstone’s suspension from Labour when asked about his comments on the BBC’s Sunday Politics.
Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, said Mr Livingstone’s decision to step down was “sad” but “the right thing to do”.
