This naughty swan had a lucky escape after he dodged speeding traffic on a busy road.

The gorgeous creature then managed to make his way to Tesco, off the North Circular Road, Enfield, but got stuck in the trolley bay.

Police came to the rescue, wrapping him up in a hi-vis jacket before whisking him away to the River Lea.

After they released him back into the canal, he settled into his familiar habitat quickly and joined a family of swans.

The curious fellow does not appear to be a mute swan, the species protected by the Queen.

The Crown claimed ownership of all the mute swans in England and Wales in the 12th Century.

The main reason for this was to prevent commoners from depriving the royals of a favourite banqueting dish.

Swans can live for up to 30 years.
