An artist passionate about communicating the affects of climate change through her work is looking to raise cash for an Arctic expedition.

Hannah Scott, from Tottenham, has set up an appeal on the crowdfunding website to promote her mission with the aim of raising £5,000 so she is able to join an expedition to the Arctic in October.

Whilst there she will develop her on-going project What Goes Around Comes Around.

In this project Hannah explores the relationship between consumer lifestyles in Britain and the Arctic environment, focusing on the impact of plastic waste.

She is aiming to challenge her audiences' decisions through art after exploring the coast of Svalbard for 18 days aboard a traditionally rigged tall ship.

Her primary role will be to document the environment, make art and collect land and air samples on behalf of Dr Stephanie Wright and her Kings College London team.

Dr Wright is an expert in the impact of microplastics on the environment and human health.

Hannah, said: "My awareness of and interest in climate change began two years ago when questions were raised about the environmental impact of my lifestyle that I had not previously considered.

"What I have learned has been quite overwhelming.

"For me, coming to terms with the implications, coupled with the recent loss of both my parents, had made my journey very much a search to reconcile my simultaneous bereavement of reality and Self.

"In this way, my practice is partly auto ethnographic, centering myself within my exploration as an observer and as one of the observed, recognizing and challenging my own identity as a British consumer and contributor to global climate change."

Hannah's work references current scientific research on climate change and plastic pollution, addressing ideas relating to the Anthropocene, identity, legacy and loss.

The annual residency expedition brings together international artists, scientists, architects and educators.

It is an interdisciplinary exploration of the Arctic that engages in current environmental themes.

The programme is called The Arctic Circle.

Hannah is interested in the creative relationship between art and science.

She explores ways of visualizing and communicating climate change through installation, film, photography and painting.

She was awarded a MullenLowe NOVA award in June 2017.
