Two weekends of music, dance, and family activities will take place over the weekends of August 3 to 5 and 24 to 26.

Both weekends at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, in Tottenham, will have performances from nationally acclaimed dancers, musicians, DJs, Latin bands, rising stars, young people from the area and more.

On Friday, August 4, international aerial theatre company Upswing will perform a blend of circus, dance and acrobatics, followed by a ‘have a go’ workshop where audience members will be invited to try it out for themselves.

The same evening, One Dance UK’s Bloom National Festival will host an event exploring the relationship between music and jazz dance led by a panel of artists, with discussions and demonstrations.

On Saturday, August 5, from 12pm to 6pm, the Bernie Grant Arts Centre will be shining a spotlight on local talent with performances from resident street dance crew Steppaz, Aniko’s Dance Academy, and Counterpoint Dance Company.

Keeping the family-friendly vibe strong, there will be face painting and a bouncy castle for children, plus an open-air market hosted by Tottenham Artisan Market.

Leading up to the August Bank Holiday weekend, on Thursday, 24 August, Tumbao Tivoli kick off the Summer Music Festival’s second weekend. This London-based trio will bring sounds of Santiago de Cuba to Tottenham with another dance workshop taking place. performance gets started.

On Friday, August 25, Empire Sounds brings Take Me Home, an evening of live performances celebrating UK based Afrobeats artists such as Vianni, GB, Tomi Agape, Dun D and Omo Frenchie.

Festivities will come to a close with an afternoon of free performances in partnership with Ghana Youth Day headlined by Afrobeats ster Fuse ODG and featuring Reggie ’n’ Bollie, Soukous band Kasai Masai and special guests to be announced.

For children, there will be face painting and a bouncy castle, as well as an open-air market hosted by The African Market. With live performances in the courtyard from 12 to 8pm, a warm up to anyone who is heading off to Notting Hill Carnival.
