A multi-million pound project to rebuild a busy library is nearly over.

Over 20,000 books of all genres are being returned to their shelves at the new two-floor Edmonton Green Library.

It now includes free wi-fi and more study space.

A dedicated history and museum space, additional resources for children and students and online training facilities are also part of new cutting edge library due to be ready for the public later on in the summer.

Enfield Council cabinet member for education, children's services and protection, councillor Ayfer Orhan, said: “Edmonton Library, when completed, is going to be a dazzling example of first rate library services, fit for the future.

“The library will unrivalled in its technology, allowing users access to online facilities and training, but we must not forget that at the heart of any libraries are its books, and I am delighted at being involved in the returning these 20,000 books right back where they belong.

"When completed Edmonton Library’s facilities will be outstanding, particularly for local students and school children.

“We are proud to be investing in their future and the future of the area, offering an unrivalled facility for all.

“Enfield Council is committed to providing a first class library service which meets the needs of residents across Enfield so why not pay your local library a visit?”?Under the terms of the council’s 2015 Library Development Strategy it hopes to create a future for the borough’s libraries, and to help build strong communities.

Enfield Council’s housing services will remain on the top floor of the new-look building.

Edmonton Green Library is currently closed whilst improvement works continue and computers can be accessed at Green Towers and Internet@31 in Edmonton Green Shopping Centre.

The closest library is on Fore Street and other flagship libraries include Enfield Town, Palmers Green and Ordnance Unity Centre.
