An inter-church rounders tournament between four churches that often work together on community projects has raised hundreds of pounds for Christian Aid.

Teams from Christ Church Southgate, St Mary The Virgin East Barnet, St Andrew’s Southgate and All Saints Whetstone played each other at the start of Christian Aid Week, Sunday May 14, at Oak Hill Park.

A crowd of over a hundred followers from all four churches witnessed All Saints Whetstone become victorious whilst making a considerable contribution to the charity which supports refugees all over the world

Father Edd Turner, Vicar of St Andrew’s Southgate, said: “This was a fantastic afternoon of fun, fellowship and fundraising.

“With our church banners pitched in the park and our Christian Aid flag flying, we reached out to more people than we could hope to meet by door to door collections and had an amazing time doing so.

“We can’t wait until next year. Good news indeed."

A bring-and-share picnic and a refreshments stall St Andrew’s Southgate ladened with delicious home-made cakes made it an inclusive day.

It is hoped that the inter-church rounders tournament will become an annual event.

The tournament is the idea of Father Edd Turner, Vicar of St Andrew’s Southgate and The Reverend Dr Gregory Platten.
