THIEVES struck twice in one day to rip £450 of plants out of a flowerbed in a park.

Police want to find witnesses to the theft in Tatem Park, Hedge Lane, on Saturday March, 18.

The theft was discovered by volunteers of the Friends of Tatem Park group on Saturday March, 18.

An entire bed with camellias and lavenders, which was planted the week, was taken.

Enfield Council said: “The thieves were so confident and greedy they returned later on Saturday to pick up what they had left, stripping an entire bed of plants bare.”

Friends of Tatem Park chairman Marc Ellul said the plants would be replaced, but added: “They will have to be anchored using devices driven into the soil.

“Other security measures may also be put in place to make it more difficult to dig up plants. We are seeking advice on this.”

The Edmonton park had been spruced up with the help of donations from the community and the help of Tesco’s “bags of help” grant scheme.

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
