Enfield Town manager Brad Quinton was delighted with his team’s response as they recorded their second win in five days defeating Canvey Island 5-1.

The Towners are now seventh in the Ryman Isthmian Premier Division and will face the Islanders once again at the weekend in the Buildbase FA Trophy.

Quinton displayed some tough love towards his side after they lost 1-0 to Wingate & Finchley over a week ago but it turned out it was something his side needed.

He said: “After the Wingate game we told them how disappointed we were. We worked hard in training throughout the week and had a very good performance on Monday against Kingstonian.

“I was very pleased with how the games came quickly after one another and it was great from the boys and it was needed.”

Things did not start so smoothly for Enfield last weekend as George Sykes found the back of the net after he curled a ball high across Nathan McDonald in the first minute of the game.

But to Town’s credit they kept their composure and found their advantage after Quinton was brought down from behind by Tayshan Hayden-Smith who was subsequently sent off.

With the Islanders down to ten men Samir Bihmoutine gained the equaliser just before half-time as he buried a low shot past the keeper’s left-hand and into the bottom corner.

And in the second half everything went Town’s way as it was all one way traffic after Ricky Gabriel put Enfield ahead as he headed the ball in under the bar.

Town were awarded a penalty after Dernell Wynter was brought down in the box and Billy Crook stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.

And 3-1 soon became 5-1 after Tyler Campbell played in Wynter who finished coolly before he added another to make it five.

Quinton added: “We started off the game a bit exposed but we worked very hard to get back into the game and came into the second half with it being 1-1 at half-time.

“They had a player sent off and he deserved the red card. We wanted to start stretching the game which we did and to move the ball quickly.

“The goals came thick and fast and although the score was 5-1 there could have easily been more and I was very happy with the performance overall.”

On Saturday Town are using their home game against Canvey Island to raise awareness about breast cancer.

The Towners will have a collection, raffle and kit auction including a signed Harry Kane shirt at the match.
