A dodgy charger has led an Enfield company to be fined more than £12,000.

Emil Baruch, owner of Baruch Enterprises in Pegamoid Road, Edmonton, pleaded guilty to two charges of supplying dangerous goods and failing to supply documents at Tottenham Magistrates' Court on September 8.

Baruch, of Manor Hall Avenue, Barnet, and his company were fined £5,200 each and ordered to pay costs of £1,732.

Enfield Council officers, acting on a tip off, visited the 55-year-old shop owner and tested the charger for one of the electrical items he sold, finding it to be faulty.

Baruch Enterprises was asked to produce documents showing they had done the necessary safety checks, but did not do so.

Council cabinet member for environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: "It is completely unacceptable for businesses to flout these regulations. Safety labelling schemes are there for a reason.

"Any individual or business which circumvents these regulations is putting at risk the lives of unwitting customers. I therefore hope that this sentence acts as a strong deterrent to any company tempted to ignore safety regulations."
