A woman has been injured after being knocked down on a street with long-standing traffic problems.

Police say a woman in her 60s was knocked over by a van on Autumn Close in Enfield at around 9am this morning (Friday, September 23).

A spokesperson said her injuries are “not life threatening or long-lasting”.

Neighbours on Autumn Close have been campaigning for months over congestion and traffic on the streets, and said an incident like this was inevitable.

Margaret Canhan, who has lived on the road for 33 years, said: “A neighbour texted me to say someone has been knocked over. That was always going to happen.

“I said at meetings to the council, will you do something or wait for someone to be knocked down.

“My neighbour said there were so many police you couldn’t walk down the road.”

Autumn Close is a small residential cul-de-sac near the junction of the A10 and Carterhatch Lane, is also home to two schools - Carterhatch Junior School and Russet House School – and Carterhatch Childrens Centre.

People living on the street say there is gridlock every morning, with cars and vans driving on pavements, blocking and damaging drives and parking on double yellow lines.

The London Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
