A WOMAN who claims she was racially abused in a shopping centre car park feels "gutted and demeaned".

The 26-year-old from Edmonton, who wanted only to be identified as “Bibi” said two women told her to "go back to your country".

The girls also allegedly called her a "stupid Indian woman" and an "illegal immigrant" after a minor car crash at Palace Exchange Shopping Centre in Enfield Town.

Police are now investigating the incident, which happened on Wednesday, September 21.

Bibi, who has lived in Edmonton for 12 years, said: “I was gutted to be discriminated against in an area such as Enfield in this day and age simply because of my skin colour.

"It is quite frightful how the matter with the other party quickly escalated to her wrongly assuming and insulting my ethnicity.

“To be a victim of such racist comments is really demeaning. and I feel that people with similar thoughts should be aware that we are not just illegal immigrants.

“My family, friends and neighbours are all working very hard to be part for the country, this is our home."

She was brought up in the country and now works for the NHS as an assistant psychologist.

We were brought up here, we received education from the same system and we work for and earn from the same government.

“We respect others regardless of their race, nationality or religion and we expect the same in return.”

She says the incident happened on level three of the Hatton Walk Car Park after a young woman reversed too fast out of her space, and bumped Bibi's car.

Bibi, works for the NHS as an assistant psychologist, was parking on level three of the nearby Hatton Walk car park, when she claims a young woman reversed to fast out of her space and bumped her car.

The woman supposedly got out of her car and started swearing - before an older lady did the same.

Bibi snapped a photograph of their car and called the police, but she claims they continued with their racist jibes before driving off.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “An incident occurred around 12.40pm on Wednesday, September 21 in a car park in Hatton Walk near Palace Exchange.

“A woman in her 20s alleged that she had been subject to abuse. This was reported to police, and there are no arrests at time. Enquiries continue.”

A Palace Exchange spokesperson said: “We were not made aware of this incident which took place, nor have we been contacted by the Police.

"Our security team is mindful of the safety of our customers and we will of course cooperate with any Police enquiries as needed.”
