Nine people arrested yesterday, including two police officers, have been bailed until next year following a corruption investigation.

A 22-year-old constable, attached to Redbridge borough, was arrested at a residential address in Essex yesterday morning (September 20) on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

The Met Police say he has been placed on restricted duty.

Another officer, a 32-year-old detective in the intelligence unit, was arrested at a home in London on suspicion of money laundering, fraud by false representation, and perverting the course of justice.

He has been suspended.

They and seven other people have been bailed until January, pending further inquiries.

The other seven are:

• A 46-year-old man arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of money laundering and perverting the course of justice.

• A 38-year-old woman arrested at a different address in Barnet on suspicion of money laundering.

• A 37-year-old man arrested at an address in Haringey on suspicion of money laundering.

• A 37-year-old man arrested at an address in Gants Hill on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

• A 20-year-old man arrested at the same residential address in Gants Hill on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

• A 22-year-old man arrested at an address in Chadwell Heath on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

• A 22-year-old man arrested at an address in Plumstead on suspicion of fraud by false representation and money laundering.

The arrests follow an operation by the Met's anti-corruption team, which focused on a number of businesses, including a luxury car hire company.

The police say their detectives received information saying the company was being used to launder money and to make false insurance claims.

DCI Sharon Brooks, who is leading the investigation, said: "Acting on intelligence we have carried out an operation that has resulted in nine arrests, including two serving police officers.

"We are committed to dealing with all corruption in the Met, and that includes those who seek to corrupt our staff."
