Two Enfield charities have been given awards at the House of Commons.

The third annual Atul Pathak Community Awards, both nominated by Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes, were given to SFL Mad, a charity committed to helping young people find jobs in Enfield, and Memory Lane Café and Carers Club, a group providing a safe environment for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

They were among 10 charities who got awards from by Atul Pathak OBE, a north London businessman. The projects received a certificate, a donation towards their work, and a “partnership pledge” of help from Pathak’s company, including use of the 29 McDonald’s restaurants he owns in the area.

Mr Pathak said: “Getting involved and supporting your local community is what these awards have set out to encourage.

“Our success relies heavily on the local communities in which we operate so it is important that we champion local causes. The awards are a small way of supporting and thanking those groups for all that they do for their local communities.”

Mr Burrowes said: “I am delighted that both MaD and Memory Lane have been deservedly recognised for the work they do to support my constituents.

“Both charities are an asset to Enfield and enhance the lives of many”.
