For the average price of a house in Enfield and Tottenham, you could afford to buy a Yorkshire castle – or a central London parking space.

According to the property website Rightmove, the average price of properties sold in Enfield over the last year was £424,015, while in Haringey it was an eye-watering £604,498.

We looked how far that kind of money would stretch across London and the country, and found some surprising results.

In West Yorkshire, for £350,000:

Just outside of Halifax, coming with two and a half acres of land, is this Grade II listed castle. While it may be smaller than most castles with just three bedrooms, it still boasts panoramic countryside views in a secluded spot.

In the City of Westminster, also for £350,000:

Measuring 19.5ft by 8ft, this parking space behind Hyde Park Gardens became one of the country’s most expensive when it went on the market in March this year. Estate agents Knight Frank confirmed it is still up for sale but only available for nearby residents.

Barnet, £425,000:

Next door, the average house price in Enfield could get you a two-bedroom ground floor flat in Barnet. Estate agents Foxtons say it comes “offering bright and spacious interiors throughout with private balcony and garage.”

Edinburgh, £425,000:

Fancy a move from one capital city to another? In Scotland’s biggest city, the average house price in Enfield could get you this four bedroom detached house. A tee-shot from Mortonhall Golf Course, its comes in a quiet cul-de-sac with its own garden.

Sunderland, £600,000:

Earlier this year the north-east city was revealed as the cheapest place to live in the UK. For the average house price in Haringey, you can get a 12 (TWELVE) bedroom detached house, complete with entrance hall, dining room, garage, office, and front and back gardens. Anyone fancy Wearside?

In the past year, most property sales in Enfield involved terraced houses which sold for an average of £416,061. Flats sold for around £291,457, while semi-detached properties fetched £592,133.

The priciest area was Hadley Wood, with an average of £1,209,935, and the least expensive was Enfield Lock, costing around £279,951.

Meanwhile in Haringey, during the last 12 months, the most commonly sold kind of property were flats, for an average price of £414,090. Terraced properties sold for near £714,352, with semi-detached properties averaging seven figures, at £1,159,456.

The most expensive area within Haringey was Holly Village - £1,334,607 - and the cheapest was Wood Green - £319,381.

During the last year, prices in Enfield were 13 per cent up on the previous year, and costs in Haringey were 16 per cent up.
