CAMPAIGNERS against plans to build a “silly” football pitch will have to wait until next month to find out if it is going ahead.

The decision on whether to build the new 3G bitch in the north-east corner of the fields, near to Cambridge Gardens and the A10, was supposed to be taken last week.

But it has now been delayed until October, giving campaigners more time to fight for their cause.

John Hall, of Cambridge Gardens, said: “It’s been a nightmare – it’s cost me some sleepless nights.”

The plans include building a new ten foot high hill enclosed by a fence to lessen the sound for residents on nearby roads, but neighbours fear this could cause more problems.

Mr Hall, 67, added: “Right now we’ve got a flat area of playing fields but the obstruction means anyone coming through the corner of the fields could be a bit dodgy as they will be closed in.

“Suddenly, they are going to build a huge fence, it is crazy.”

Ruth Hastings-Iqball, secretary of the Friends of Enfield Playing Fields, said: “We are going to see less green space, and we cannot afford to lose any more.

“Ideally we do not want to see it built at all, but if it is built then it shouldn’t be where it is planned.”

The application will be relisted in October.
