A bar is facing an uncertain future after Haringey Council announced it is reviewing its licence.

The N17 Lounge, also known as “The Pride of Tottenham”, has been called before the licencing committee after allegations it “was found to be operating beyond permitted hours which also resulted in noise nuisance to nearby residents.”

The bar, in High Road, Bruce Grove, will have its case heard next month, with those wanting to speak at the committee meeting told they must contact the council by August 31.

According to papers served against the bar’s owner, Mpala Mufwankolo, council officer Charles Buckle visited the bar three times in a week between July 25 and August 1 after complaints from neighbours.

The report says Mr Buckle first visited the bar on Monday, July 25, and said he “could clearly hear loud bass music emanating and echoing along the road from 50 yards away up Pembury Road.

“The level in my opinion was excessive, to be heard so far away, and in my opinion would be a nuisance to local residents.

“I discovered a speaker outside in the front garden area. I spoke to the person in charge and the speaker was turned off and taken inside.”

The report also says people were seen leaving the bar after 5am – over an hour after the supposed closing time – with people “laughing, talking and shouting”.

The bar advertised an event on Sunday, July 31, which was scheduled to go on until 5am, with Mr Buckle saying at 4.30am he “observed some 30 patrons outside talking loudly.

“The noise generated 30 to 45 minutes after closing, in my opinion, was unreasonable.”

He said he was called again at 3.30am the next day, and again could hear bass music from the bar on Pembury Road.

The report says: “I walked around to establish if any doors or windows were open as the music was clearly audible outside.

“I found no doors or windows open, clearly the music was being played too loud.”

The Pride of Tottenham has been contacted for comment.
