A gas engineer has been forced to pay out over £9,000 after installing a boiler unsafely.
Michael Efthymiou, of Nursery Gardens, Enfield, was found guilty in a one-day trial at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court of breaching health and safety regulations and was fined £2,460 plus £6,722.37 in costs.
Efthymiou, a self- employed gas engineer, was found to have carried out an unsafe installation of a gas boiler and flue at a home in Crossfield Road, Clacton-on-Sea, on February 7, 2015.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, their investigation found Efthymiou left the boiler “with significant failings that left the tenants at risk”, and could even have caused a gas explosion had it not been fixed.
