A scheme to get young people into music will begin classes in Enfield for the first time later this year.

SoundSkool, which runs classes across north London, will run classes in the College of Enfield, Haringey and North London from September.

Over 2,000 students have taken part in the courses in Barnet and other boroughs since 2008, and it is hoped it will have similar success in Enfield.

The non-profit group offers one year courses to people aged 16 to 19, in music-related vocational classes and GCSEs in Maths and English, and hope to have 100 students registered by September.

The courses have been endorsed by award-winning musicians.

Sonique, winner of the 2001 Brit Award for Best British Female, said: “It’s a really lovely thing that’s happening here. If you want to do any kind of music at all, and you are anywhere near this area, please come because we are here with our arms open.”

Double MOBO Award winner Chipmunk added: “The way that I’m able to articulate myself and conduct my meetings and handle the business that leads on to the point where I get to show my talent is because I’m educated, so go and get your education.”
