The owner of a car dealership has traded in his usual drive to work for a bike in order to raise money for charity.

Richard Ennis, head of business at Stephen James BMW dealership in Enfield, swapped his BMW i8 for a cargo bike, and will be cycling from home in Winchmore Hill to his work on Lincoln Road each day this week to raise money for The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre.

Mr Ennis said the last time he was on a bike was nine years ago, but he agreed to do it because he has become increasingly frustrated with traffic on his car journey to work, as well as to raise money for the dealership’s chosen charity for the year.

Lesa Barker, fundraising manager for The Nightingale, said: “We get no statutory funding and have to rely totally on the local community to help us raise not only much needed funds, but to enable us to provide our services free of charge to the people of Enfield.

“Having organisations like Stephen James supporting us and fundraising for us is essential to our survival.”
