A disabled man who has created a search engine to help people like him to get active is appealing for help in getting his invention off the ground.

Husband and wife team Neel and Lisa Mohun, of Carterhatch Lane, Enfield, have founded WhatsActive, an online forum which allows people unable to get out to find physical activities to search for and book them with others with similar situations and interests.

Mr Mohun, who works in engineering, was diagnosed four years ago with the inflammatory disease ankylosing spondylitis, and is now registered disabled and has a Enfield blue badge.

The 34-year-old said a big part of managing this condition is to stay active, and founded WhatsActive after finding it difficult to meet with other people with similar abilities.

He is competing for funding in this year’s VOOM competition, organised by Richard Branson, which awards money to new businesses based on the public vote, and has called on the people of Enfield for their support

Mr Mohun said: “We have been working on it for years, but know getting it of the ground will cost quite a bit.

“We are going at full force, and  while I am not too optimistic we can win, the more votes we get the better, so I am hoping our friends and neighbours can give us some momentum.

“I am thankful for everyone who has supported and voted for us so far, the exposure we have got is huge.”

The WhatsActive site, currently being developed by an IT company based in California, plans to launch in Enfield, before spreading out to the rest of London.
