Britain’s leading female bowls player visited Enfield to try and encourage more people to take up the sport.

Ellen Falkner is the reigning world indoor champion, having won the 2016 title 10 years after her previous triumph, and is a three-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

The 36-year-old visited Bush Hill Park Bowls Club on Thursday, April 21 as part of a free community day, allowing anyone to come and give it a try.

She said: “I have worked with the club before, the chairman owns the local bowls shop, and we are trying to get more people interested in the game.

“The best thing about bowls is that anyone can compete, even if they are older or less able to move, I won the national championships alongside my mum and my nan, and she is 78.

“It is a very social game, so can really form a sense of community.”

Falkner, 36, says her next goal is making the squad for the World Outdoor Championships, being held in New Zealand between November 27 and December 12.

She also hopes to be able to defend her Commonwealth title in 2018, having won in the last games held in Glasgow.
