A borough mental health nurse has won a national award.

Consultant Teresa Hill has received a British Journal of Nursing (BJN) award for her specialist work with children suffering long term chronic illness.

Teresa has worked for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) for the last 22 years, and joined the Lymphoedema service in 1997 for patients who live in Enfield.

She has since been committed to raising awareness of the condition, which causes painful swellings due to problems with tissue.

Ms Hill said: “This BJN award is going to raise awareness of lymphoedema in general, specifically the challenges of the condition in childhood.

“The service has progressed enormously over the past 18 years, I’m delighted the group has achieved so much - we’re holding the third national Lymphaletics event in September.

“This event is an opportunity for children with the condition and their families to come together, in a fun environment, encouraging them to join in activities and socialise.

“It is delightful to see the joy on children's faces, and the support the parents gain from each other at these events.”
