Spurs “must recover quickly” after being dumped out of the FA Cup according to their boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Tottenham manager was left frustrated as his side failed to take numerous chances in a smash-and-grab 1-0 victory for Crystal Palace.

Pochettino said: “It wasn’t our day, we feel very disappointed because we deserve more but this is football”.

Martin Kelly’s powerful strike just before half time settled the tie in which Spurs hit both posts and had two chances cleared off the line.

The Spurs manager revealed his side’s frustration at failing to convert numerous chances.

He said: “We feel very disappointed because it is an exciting competition for us to go far and we are in a very tough period, every game that we play is a final and we have very difficult games.”

Asked whether his side’s Premier League challenge had hindered their performance in the FA Cup, Pochettino believes it did not have an impact despite the loss.

He said: “Every game is important, if you watch the game we take the whole match serious and we play how we need to play and we want to win every game, next game is the most important.”

Michel Vorm was deputising for Hugo Lloris who had a soldier injury and the 32-year-old will feel he could have save Kelly’s strike.

But Pochettino leapt to the defence of his second choice keeper and said: “It is not fair now to blame one person but we need to analyse the game today, we play better, maybe not fantastic but we play better – we were a little bit unlucky.”

He added: “we need to recover quick and be ready for Thursday.”

Spurs face a crunch last-32 tie with Italian outfit Fiorentina before matching up against Swansea at White Hart Lane next Sunday.
