An MP is “delighted” the borough has been awarded with over a million pounds to help business workshops.

Kate Osamor, MP for Edmonton, announced that Enfield Labour has won £1.35 million in Greater London Allowance (GLA) regeneration support and it will be matched with the same amount in Meridian Water master developer money, making a total package of £2.7 million.

The money will be spent on Building Bloqs, a social enterprise in the southern part of Enfield, which will now be able to expand in to different parts of the area.

Starting with Edmonton, it will help people learn employment skills and help launch their own companies in business areas such as construction, prototype manufacturing, and digital tech.

She said: “I am delighted by the news that we have won additional funding for Edmonton. It is a huge win for Enfield Labour.

“This is a concrete economic development opportunity for Edmonton residents; it has the potential to create 300 new jobs for local people.

“I want to thank everyone at Enfield Council who have been working heard on negotiating this deal for us.”

Building BloQs is London’s largest open access workshop and the money will help facilitate the expansion of Building BloQs to become the largest open access workshop in Europe.

This will allow further support to an industry which has a lack of available workshop space and high costs with overheads.
