A late penalty saved Spurs from FA Cup exit as they drew 2-2 in an enthralling clash against Leicester City.

Spurs opened the scoring after Christian Eriksen slotted home a rebounded effort after just eight minutes.

Mauricio Pochettino wrung the changes for the FA Cup tie making seven alterations to the line-up at Goodison Park last week.

Michel Vorm, Danny Rose, Heung-Min Son, Kieran Trippier Nacer Chadli, Josh Onomah and Kevin Wimmer all came into the starting side.

The pair have met 11 times in the FA Cup including the 1961 final and as recently as last season when Leicester snatched victory right at the death.

It took under ten minutes for Spurs to grab the opening goal of the game with their first attack.

Foxes’ keeper Kasper Schmeichel could only palm the ball into the path of Eriksen who tucked it away.

The lilywhites were dominating possession and continued their onslaught at the Leicester goal.

Excellent link up play between Son and Chadli almost led to the second goal but for a late interception by Ritchie De Laet.

That acted as a springboard for the away side who levelled shortly after.

Eriksen immediately tried to restore Spurs’ lead with a rasping 20 yards effort but Schemeichel held his shot.

Claudio Ranieri is known as the Tinkerman and he tinkered to good effect in the second half.

Okazaki came on for N’Golo Kante and waltzed beyond three Spurs defenders before slotting past Vorm at the second go.

Chadli came close to hitting back straight away as he acrobatically connected with Son’s rasping volley across the box - but it flew over the bar.

Debutant Demarai Gray almost made it 3-1 with a fizzing drive from the corner of the box.

Spurs needed inspiration and fast if they were stay in the FA Cup, a prize which has eluded them for 25 years.

Harry Kane came off the bench in a bid to breathe life into Spurs’ cup campaign.

Yet the home side continued to struggle to break down a stubborn Leicester side.

Nabil Bentaleb tried a curling effort but Schmeichel was there to deny the substitute.

Then the turning point.

Rose cut inside Nathan Dyer who handled the ball inside the box and Bobby Madley pointed to the spot.

Dyer did touch ball with his hand but it did not look deliberate, leaving Leicester players furious.

Kane then slotted away the penalty to set up a thrilling final three minutes.

Spurs pressed but could not find a way through and will travel to the King Power Stadium to do it all again.
