In January, plans for a multi-million cycling scheme which could send both cars and a cycle lane through Enfield Town were revealed by the Enfield Independent.

Cycle Enfield, also known as 'Mini-Holland', saw Enfield Council gain £30 million from London Mayor Boris Johnson to improve cycle lanes in the borough.

Leaked first draft proposals to the Cycle Enfield Partnership Board, showed six potential options for the future of Enfield Town’s road layout.

The plans were trimmed down to two options which see cyclists and buses going through Enfield Town but cars going round the outside of the town.

The bereaved mother of a boy who died after he was hit by a bus paid tribute to her "very popular" and "football mad" son.

David Barcelos, 13, was hit by a bus in Fore Street, in Edmonton, on January 15, as he ran for another bus going to his school Gladesmore Community School, in Tottenham.

His devastated mother Nadia Oliveira, of Joyce Avenue, Upper Edmonton, told the Enfield Independent about her “amazing” son.

She said: “We are heartbroken, the whole family is devastated. He was an amazing and very popular boy.”

Also in January, a park group was left fuming after seeing green space “decimated” during redevelopment work.

Friends of Bury Lodge Park, in Bury Lodge Gardens, Winchmore Hill, believe they were “betrayed” when part of the park was stripped as part of restoration work.

Plans had been agreed by Enfield Council, Thames 21 and the park group to create a sustainable drainage system (Suds) in Salmons Brook, which runs through the park, to help reduce pollution from nearby A10 road.

Finally, both David Cameron and Ed Miliband visited Enfield in January as they stepped up their campaign to win the General Election in May.
