A man has been fined more than £2,000 for flytipping on one of Enfield’s busiest roads.
Kleanthis Symeou, 37, from Hillfield Park, in Winchmore Hill, dumped household rubbish on the Ridgeway, on July 9, 2014 and was spotted by passing drivers.
Enfield council’s cabinet member for environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said “Flytipping is a serious and incredibly anti-social offence which costs the council hundreds of thousands of pounds to clear every year.
“Mr Symeou admitted that dumping this waste was a way to avoid paying for its proper disposal and, should he not have been caught, would have led to a disgraceful mess being left on the roadside, which would had to be have been cleared at the taxpayer’s expense.
“Enfield Council provides numerous easy ways to legally get rid of rubbish, there is our doorstep collection service and also our Civic Amenity Site. So let this be a warning to anyone who thinks they can get away with flytipping in Enfield - they had better think again.”
Symeou pleaded guilty at Tottenham Magistrates Court on November 19 and given a total fine of £2,244.
