Floristry students have gained a podium place for their work at a competition in central London.

Capel Manor College, in Bulls Cross, Enfield fell just short of the top prize as they came second in the New Covert Garden Flower Market College Day.

The students were tasked with creating a wreath for the front cover of Country Living magazine’s Christmas issue.

Equipped with a budget of £30 and an Oasis foam wreath, they had to source material from the Flower Market, design and create the wreath in just 2.5 hours.

Natalie Revett, Head of Floristry said: “Opportunities like the New Covent Garden Market College Day help to prepare students for the industry and their future careers.

“Encouraging them to work as a team and allowing them to demonstrate their floristry knowledge and engage with the atmosphere and experience of what the Flower Market is all about.”

The UK Floristry Judges Guild and the Covent Garden Market Authority judged the competition.

The college is now offering floristry courses at the Flower Market.
