Armed forces veterans will now be able to get free advice next month with the help of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Those ex-servicemen and women struggling with paying bills will receive financial advice at drop-in sessions.

The RBL is sending a special benefits and money advice team to join the regular Monday morning advice drop-in session organised by the Over 50s Forum at the Dugdale Centre, in London Road.

Over 50s Forum president Monty Meth said: “Enfield Council is a signatory to the Armed Forces Community Covenant, which pledges its support for all service and ex-servicemen and women - and which the Over 50s Forum has from the outset endorsed.

“So we have contacted all Royal British Legion branches in the area to encourage their members to take advantage of this specialist free advice session.

“If you're having trouble paying the bills, or you think you could be entitled to benefits that you're not yet receiving, the Legion’s team might well be able to help.”

Since 2007, the legion’s benefits and money advice service has put £70 million back into the pockets of ex-servicemen and women, through increases in benefits, writing off debts and gaining grants.

The team will be available from 10am-1pm from Monday, October 5.
