Pensioners now have the chance to improve their computer skills after thousands was donated to a charity.

Age UK Enfield was granted £4,500 from the Santander Foundation to help the older generation improve their computer skills.

The grant will provide materials so that local teenagers can help the elderly improve their IT and internet skills whilst the teenagers in turn learn how to develop their leadership, teaching and communication skills.

Leonie de Botton, compliance and trans-IT manager at Age UK Enfield, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to receive this grant from the Santander Foundation which will allow us to extend our current intergenerational IT work in schools and help more older people in the borough. With the most competitive deals being available online, it is increasingly important for older people to be IT savvy."

Anthony Alvarado, branch director at Santander’s Finchley Central branch, said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK. Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Age UK Enfield and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
