Calls have been made for people to take part in debates about a multi-million plan to reduce waste in north London.

The North London Waste Authority, based in Advent Way, Upper Edmonton, is set to demolish its current energy plant to make way for a new generator.

The authority is aiming to recycle half its waste by 2020, and use the latest technology in its new incinerator to improve the air quality of north London.

The seven north London boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest are now working together to prepare the North London Waste Plan (NLWP) and are calling on people to have their say.

Councillor Alan Sitkin, cabinet member for economic regeneration and business development, said: “Local authorities have a statutory duty to prepare waste plans and it is crucial that we get as much public input as possible. This consultation is an initial opportunity for everyone to influence the process. All feedback will be carefully considered as part of the next stage of the plan.”

Councillor Toby Simon, chairman of the NLWP planning members group, added: “As a group of seven north London boroughs we are collaborating together to find the best possible solutions for the waste and recycling that is generated in our area.

The draft plan and the accompanying documents are available for consultation from Thursday, July 30 to Wednesday, September 30 and are available to download from www.nlwp.net or are available to view in the council’s planning offices and in local libraries.
