A block of flats was left badly damaged and 30 people evacuated following a fire.
Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters fought a blaze in Tysoe Road, Enfield, where the first and second floors of the three-storey building were alight, as well as part of its roof.
Firefighters were called at 4.14pm on Tuesday with crews from Enfield, Chingford, Woodford, Tottenham and surrounding fire stations at the scene.
The fire was under control by 8.18pm and it is believed to have started externally and got into the fabric of the building via air vents.
