Combining beauty with conservation is not your conventional mix but a Southgate model is hoping to do just that this weekend.

Rachel Cadman will be representing north London at the Miss Earth UK grand final in a bid to represent the country at one of the biggest beauty pageants in Vienna.

The overall winner will travel the world promoting conservation but first, the social media assistant must take on a series of tasks where she will give a talk on conservation, have an interview and several catwalks before a winner is announced.

Ms Cadman said: “I am so nervous at the moment, there are so many rounds but it should be a really exciting weekend and it would mean everything to be able to win and represent my county in Austria.

“I just hope I don’t fall over on the big day. There is a great atmosphere at these places and all the models are good friends, it’s like a big community."

The UK team will be made up of winners from England, Wales and Scotland, and Ms Cadman told the Enfield Independent of her reasons for entering the competition.

She said: “I was looking around for a competition to enter that allows me to represent myself and promote eco-friendliness, something I am very passionate about. It’s not all just about the crown but hopefully making a difference.

“Late last year I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit an elephant conservation site in Thailand and donate clothes to the local orphanage, it was an eye-opening experience and an opportunity I will always hold dear. I have also convinced my Father to try the eco-friendly route within his engineering business.”

The Southgate hopeful has spent hours practicing for the competition and is sponsored by global fashion app Shopcade for the competition, which takes place at Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham.
