A family from Southgate has been crowned winners of a building competition.

Ten-year-old Henry Mara and Julian Mara, eight, won the Emirates Air Line family challenge, which saw them receive a box of K’NEX pieces and had 20 minutes to design something in cabins at Emirates Greenwich Peninsula terminal.

The boys were accompanied by their mum Seiko Mara, who said: “We’ve been waiting for the announcement and we’re so excited that the boys have won. It was lots of fun and they can’t wait to play with their prize.”

Danny Price, head of the Emirates Air Line, said: “Congratulations to Henry and Julian, they clearly put a lot of effort into their entry and are deserved winners. The K’NEX challenge was a great activity for families and showed that the summer holidays are the perfect time to take a trip on the Emirates Air Line and enjoy the spectacular views of the city.”

Mumsnet CEO and judge Justine Roberts added: "There were so many great entries, but I was really struck by the ingenious approach and detailed construction of this miniature O2; it's incredibly impressive, especially when you consider that it was put together 300ft above the Thames."

Henry and Julian will get a K’NEX 70 Model Building Tub, a family ticket for the Emirates Air Line and Thames Clippers (for two adults and up to three children) and free entry to the Emirates Aviation Experience.
