Horticultural college students are celebrating their results and are now preparing for university life after making the grade.

Capel Manor College, in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, has seen its pupils pick up qualifications in a plethora of practical skills.

Principal Stephen Dowbiggin OBE said: “We are so proud of our students and their achievements, they do not just attend college, they are the college.”

“Whilst studying at Capel, everyone gets involved in the running of the college’s animal collection, estates, farms, gardens and our other commercial enterprises, and this is what makes them employable or gets them a place at university.

“We wish them all the very best, they are graduating in exciting an period, with new roles constantly emerging as the land-based industries grow and adapt to changing times.”

Simone Heaney, who studied at Capel for two years and finished her level 3 animal management advanced diploma, also won the Friends of Capel Cup for being the best full-time student.

She said: “I knew school wasn’t for me, I came to Capel to do the animal management diploma. I found the practical elements to the course intriguing, from working with the animals to completing lab experiments with bacteria.

“I loved my course and am working towards becoming a veterinary surgeon and studying at the Royal Veterinary College. I couldn’t have achieved this without Capel.”
